💙 Few public figures face comparisons as constant—or as emotional—as Meghan Markle. Fresh discussions have once again linked the Duchess of Sussex with Princess Diana, reigniting passionate conversations among royal followers.

The Duchess of Sussex has reignited the age-old privacy debate this week after sharing new family snaps from their “summer holiday” online. On Thursday (July 23), Meghan Markle posted a collection of pictures from the couple’s recent trip to Europe and the UK with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five. The family getaway included stops in Portugal and the UK, as well as a poignant visit to Althorp, Princess Diana’s childhood home and final resting place.
But the mum-of-two couldn’t just make one reference to her mother-in-law in her latest social media dump. Oh no, she found another way to invoke the memory of the late Princess of Wales, which certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed on this side of the pond.

Among the family snaps was a beach photo showing Meghan, Harry, Archie and Lilibet running into the sea together. She was seen sporting a black one-piece with a dramatic low back reminiscent of the one Princess Diana wore during her family beach vacation in Nevis back in January 1993.
In any other post, I’m sure it would have gone unnoticed, and Brits would have simply rolled their eyes at the Duchess of Sussex sharing more pictures of her kids despite advocating for children’s privacy online. But after visiting Princess Diana’s grave with her children for the first time, it felt insensitive.
Trying to replicate her late mother-in-law’s wardrobe on such an emotional visit was uncalled for and serves no purpose other than to get people riled up for ruining her memory. Not only that, but preaching about the importance of privacy weeks before sharing these intimate memories online only makes a mockery of Diana’s legacy.

In the lead-up to the UK visit, the couple made a point of sharing their safety concerns following potential terrorist threats uncovered by the FBI. Harry and Meghan even travelled separately, with Archie and Lilibet shielded from the eyes of the media for their entire duration.
But it’s clear to see that Meghan doesn’t really care about their privacy, because days after returning to the States, she’s plastered the pictures online for everyone to see. With Princess Diana’s death serving as a painful reminder of what a constant intrusion of privacy can do to someone, why would she break that trust and share these precious memories online for the world to see?

Furthermore, why is she trying to be someone she’s not by dressing up as the late princess, especially when sharing it with the world, knowing the backlash it will no doubt receive? For one obvious reason: attention.
As we’ve seen in recent months, the Suits star loves to drum up attention online, be it through her various media appearances or social media posts. In fact, the former Hollywood star is on our screens more now than she ever was while working as an actress.
If we know one thing about the Duchess, it’s that she knows how to work the media. So really, we shouldn’t be surprised that she’s disgracing the late Princess’ memory during such a poignant family trip. This tasteless slap in the face is just another blow to the Royal Family, days after recovering from her undeserved Daytime Emmy nomination.
The Duchess needs to do us all a favour and remove herself from social media like her husband. We don’t need to see these family snaps or hear about your special connection to the Royal Family. If you truly want complete privacy, then do just that and get off our phones and our screens. We’d all be better off for it.
