Meryl Streep made a rare comment about Martin Short, whom she has been rumored to be dating.
While making an appearance on on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live on Monday, the 76-year-old actress discussed the possibility of her making a return to Broadway.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 star — who put on a stunning display at the premiere just one day ago — previously performed on Broadway in the 1970s and has done stage acting over the years.
When the talk show host brought up the topic and asked if the film legend would ever take the stage again, she mentioned her longtime friend, costar and rumored boyfriend, 76, in her answer.
‘Oh, I would love to do so,’ she told Cohen. ‘I was talking with Marty Short about that.’
She also added: ‘We were thinking that would be fun to do something together.’

Streep and Short have been rumored to be dating since January 2024 when the Only Murders in the Building costars were spotted together at the Golden Globes in January 2024.
Over the years, the pair have been spotted together on a number of occasions but never confirmed they were dating.
In Only Murders in the Building, their characters are involved in an onscreen romance and got married in the latest season of the series.
Streep previously joined the all-star cast of Only Murders in the Building in 2023 as Broadway star Loretta Durkin, the love interest of Short’s Oliver Putnam.
Short has also previously gushed about Streep and shut down dating rumors.
While talking about working with Streep, he opened up about what might surprise fans about her.
‘I think just how easy it is, how loose she is,’ he told Entertainment Tonight in September 2024.
‘She doesn’t carry any of her 21 Oscar nominations to the set,’ Short continued.

The pair sparked romance rumors due to their chemistry as onscreen lovers in Only Murders in the Building
The pair were longtime friends prior to Streep joining the ensemble cast in 2023 and developing a close working relationship with him; pictured in February 2015
‘She has a right to be a diva, and she’s just so polite and fun and generous,’ he added.
Short also previously denied the dating rumors and said her being casted as his character’s love interest was a coincidence.
‘We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends,’ he told People in January 2025.
He also told the outlet: ‘They already planned that I would have a theatrical experience and there would be a love interest.’
He added: ‘So that was coincidental, but she just wanted to be on the show. She didn’t know about [the love story].’
Short is a widow and was previously married to Nancy Dolman for 30 years prior to her death in 2010.
Streep was previously married to sculptor Don Gummer from 1978 to 2017.
