A serious explosion in Monaco has left a wealthy Ukrainian businessman and members of his family in critical condition, according to local reports.
The incident happened near the entrance of a luxury apartment building in the principality, prompting a large emergency response from police, firefighters and medical teams. Local media described the device as a suspected parcel or bag-related explosive, though investigators have not yet confirmed all details publicly.
Vadim Ermolaev, a Ukrainian businessman known for his work in real estate and other ventures, has been named by local outlets as one of the people injured. Reports also say his wife and a 13-year-old child were among those hurt in the blast.
Authorities in Monaco responded quickly, with emergency services from nearby France also assisting at the scene. Police reportedly launched a search for a suspect after CCTV images appeared to show a man near the area before the explosion.
A Monaco government official said three people were in critical condition following the incident. Officials also activated emergency procedures used when several people are injured in a serious event.
