When Bridgerton first debuted in 2020, some more colorful terms were used to describe the more explicit nature of the Regency era drama. While the show reminded a lot of fans of period dramas like adaptations of the works of Jane Austen, there was also explicit material that is not usually found in period drama adaptations. Bridgerton is based on the 8-book series by Julia Quinn, a historical romance author, and the books themselves also contain sexual content. It’s become a bit of an expectation season in and out, to see that kind of mature content between the two leads. For Bridgerton Season 4, Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha take center stage as Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek. The season has since wrapped filming and while fans wait for its 2026 debut, Ha talked with Glamour while peeling back the curtain of how the production grew her as an actress. She says of filming the more… spicier scenes, “I was petrified, it was like 9 am—robes off!” She says:
“I’m of the mindset that without fear and discomfort that you have to push past, you won’t grow, so I took it on as a challenge for myself to grow as an actor as opposed to doing this for anyone else.”
‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Will Be the “Most Faithful” Adaptation Yet, According to the Showrunner

Showrunner Jess Bronwell confirmed during the Seasons of Love event back in February that Season 4 will be the “most faithful adaptation” yet of the four books we’ve seen adapted. There are a lot of great scenes to look forward to in the season, adapting An Offer From a Gentleman in that case. From what fans have seen so far, there looks to be the masquerade ball that sets everything in motion, as well as Sophie and Benedict arriving at My Cottage in the middle of a storm looking for light. Both scenes are plucked straight from the book. Bronwell explained that for this season:
“You know, it really lends itself to adaptation, just plot-wise. Yeah, I think it’s very similar. Of course, some smaller things have changed. Character motivation, especially Benedict’s, is quite different from the book, in that Luke Thompson brings this wonderful sensitivity and self-awareness to the character. In Benedict’s story of trying to woo Sophie, I think the character is a bit more delicate and thoughtful, perhaps, in the way he goes about it.”
You can watch the past 3 seasons of Bridgerton now on Netflix. Season 4 will premiere sometime in 2026. Stay with Collider for the latest updates.
