After years marked by unimaginable heartbreak, Rebecca Adlington has finally shared the news her fans have been hoping for.
The four-time Olympic gold medallist has given birth to a baby girl, Thea Joy, welcoming her into the world alongside husband Andy Parsons — and describing the moment as the one that has made their family feel complete.
The 37-year-old former swimmer announced the joyful arrival on Instagram on Sunday evening, posting a tender image of newborn Thea sleeping peacefully in her hospital cot, surrounded by heart shapes formed by her family’s hands. Her caption was simple, but powerful:
“Our family is complete.”
A long road to this moment
The arrival of Thea Joy comes after an extraordinarily painful chapter in Rebecca’s life. Over the past three years, she has endured two devastating pregnancy losses, experiences she has spoken about with raw honesty.
In 2022, Rebecca suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks after being diagnosed with a molar pregnancy, a rare and serious condition that required emergency surgery. Just a year later, tragedy struck again when she lost her baby daughter, Harper, at her 20-week scan. Rebecca later had to give birth to her stillborn child — an experience she has described as life-altering.
Speaking publicly about that time, Rebecca admitted she felt betrayed by her own body.
“I was angry at my body,” she said. “It didn’t give me that warning. I had no symptoms. That was really hard to get over.”
She has also spoken movingly about the physical and emotional aftermath — returning home still visibly pregnant, grieving a child she would never bring home.
“It’s incredibly hard,” she said. “I fell out of love with my body, even though it had given me two healthy children and four Olympic gold medals.”
Adlington, 37, already shares son Albie, two, with her husband, as well as daughter Summer, eight, from her previous marriage with ex-husband Harry Needs

A shared grief — and shared healing
Andy Parsons has also spoken openly about his own struggle during that time, explaining how his instinct was to focus entirely on supporting Rebecca, even as he quietly battled his own grief.
“My role was to support Becky,” he said. “But I realised I wasn’t processing it properly myself. I was struggling a lot.”
The couple later sought counselling through baby-loss charity Petals, something Andy says was vital — not just for Rebecca, but for him too.
“There isn’t enough support for men in this situation,” he explained. “They’ve lost a child as well.”
A family made whole
Rebecca is already mum to eight-year-old daughter Summer, from her previous marriage, and two-year-old son Albie, whom she shares with Andy. Now, with the arrival of Thea Joy, she says her family finally feels complete.
The name itself carries deep meaning — a symbol of happiness after sorrow, and hope after years of uncertainty.
Love pours in
Following the announcement, messages of support flooded in from fans and famous friends alike. Fellow Olympians and celebrities shared their congratulations, celebrating not just the birth of a baby, but the strength behind the journey.
For Rebecca and Andy, Thea Joy represents far more than a new arrival. She is proof that even after profound loss, healing is possible — and joy can return.
