Sara Cox has become the unstoppable heartbeat of Children In Need 2025 — battling pain, brutal weather and sheer exhaustion as she edges closer to completing her extraordinary 135-mile Great Northern Marathon Challenge.
Across Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, the Radio 2 favourite has pushed her body far beyond its limits, and still managed to do what almost no one believed possible:
smash through a jaw-dropping £3.5 MILLION before even reaching her final marathon.
And today — on the last stretch to Pudsey — the nation is watching, cheering and refreshing updates by the minute.
DAY FOUR: CHEERS, TEARS & SWOLLEN LEGS
Just before 10pm last night, Sara sensationally crossed the day-four finish line, raising her arms in triumph as crowds erupted around her. Despite the pain etched across her face, she couldn’t help but grin — a moment fans immediately praised as “legendary.”
Messages poured in:
-
“You’re inspiring a generation of women!”
-
“Still smiling outside Masham — what a warrior!”
-
“£26,577 PER MILE. Go on, queen!”
But behind the celebrations lay the brutal truth of the challenge.
A doctor rushed in to check her “swollen thighs” and her painfully enlarged calves.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Sara admitted, exhausted.
After checking her pulse, the medic gave a reassuring nod: “Good.”
It was enough for her to keep going.
THE FINAL PUSH — FROM HARROGATE TO PUDSEY
Today, Sara leaves Harrogate for the final 29-mile battle, heading straight into West Yorkshire for her triumphant finish in Pudsey — home of Pudsey Bear himself.
Her journey will be documented in an upcoming BBC One special, Sara Cox: Every Step of the Way, airing November 19 at 8pm — a behind-the-scenes look at every ache, every setback and every emotional victory.
THE MOMENT SHE BROKE £3 MILLION
When Sara saw her total soar over £3,000,000, she burst into joyful disbelief:
“AHHH, amazing, amazing. We’ve popped over £3 MILLION! Everybody just giving a fiver or a tenner did it. Thank you so much.”
The Radio 2 account summed it up perfectly:
“THREEmendous.”
From £2.6m to £3m to £3.5m — the milestones kept coming, and so did the love.
CELEB SUPPORT FROM JUDI DENCH, ALAN SHEARER… AND A VIDEO FROM ANT & DEC IN AUSTRALIA
As the miles got tougher, the messages grew louder.
Dame Judi Dench sent love from her beloved Yorkshire:
“Good luck and well done — how brilliant.”
Football icon Alan Shearer joked:
“Pudsey Bear moves quicker than me these days! Good luck!”
And from the other side of the world, on the I’m A Celebrity set, Ant & Dec interrupted their jungle prep:
“Hello Coxy! We’ve heard the amazing job you’re doing! Keep going, loads of love!”
Even her family surprised her mid-run — her sister Dot racing toward her, leaving Sara in happy shock.
“ONE OF THE TOUGHEST MORNINGS OF MY LIFE”
Day three nearly broke her.
Speaking to Paddy McGuinness, she confessed through gritted teeth:
“It’s probably been one of the toughest mornings of my life — everything hurts. Hump after hump after hump. Pain is exhausting.”
But she kept going — five miles at a time, fueled by physio advice, determination, and, occasionally… pork pies.
THE VIEW FROM 100 MILES
Crossing the 100-mile mark felt like a superhero moment.
“Get that woman a cape!” one fan insisted.
Another wrote:
“We need more Sara Cox’s in this world.”
And with just one marathon remaining, the finish line is finally in sight.
A CHIP STOP THAT SENT THE INTERNET WILD
At one point, fans melted when she posted a photo of her recovery meal — chips drenched in vinegar and gravy, fish, mushy peas, tartare sauce, and the biggest smile she’d managed all day.
“True northern sustenance!” one supporter swooned.
