A scientist who has chosen not to follow in her famous mother’s footsteps attended the inaugural Global Space Awards on Friday.
Dr Katie King, 32, is a nano scientist working on groundbreaking cancer treatments and her company Bio Orbit was a finalist in the Sustainability for Earth category.
Her mother is one of the country’s best known TV presenters with a career in front of the camera spanning over 40 years.
The media personality made her start on daytime TV in 1982, before eventually launching into stardom with gigs like Loose Women, I’m a Celebrity …Get Me Out of Here! and This Morning.
Since leaving her most famous gig in 1999, she has gone on to present the annual Pride of Britain Awards and in 2004 had a stint on Strictly Come Dancing.
But can you guess who Katie’s mother is?

That’s right, it’s Carol Volderman!
The star revealed that she was axed from her BBC Radio Wales show for breaching the broadcaster’s new social media guidelines – as she vowed to continue her anti-Tory posts online.
The presenter, who had been at the station for five years, said she was ‘not prepared to stop’ venting her ‘strong beliefs’ on X and Instagram.
She has since made appearances on LBC and upped how vocal she is about her political stances on social media.
Carol and Katie are clearly a close pair who most recently attended the Women Of The Year awards together in October.
The star has always been proud of her daughter, who obtained a PhD in nanotechnology from Cambridge University.
Celebrating Katie on Instagram after her achievment in 2022, she said: ‘single parenting ain’t that bad after all’, and revealed her first born can ‘now call herself DOCTOR KATIE KING.’
The maths whizz, who herself read engineering at Cambridge added: ‘Have rarely been as happy as right now. It’s like driving for miles and all the lights are on green.

‘My girl Katie. Science. Grafter. Brilliant. Scientist. Funny. Stunning. She passed her PHD in nanotechnology @cambridgeuniversity, I couldn’t be prouder of more hungover.’
The glamourous nanoscientist has worked for NASA and is described by her famous TV star mother as ‘brilliant’ and ‘stunning’.
Earlier this year Katie addressed the Select Committee at the House of Lords about her space company which hopes to use zero-gravity production to change the face of cancer treatment.
If successful, it could lead to cancer patients being able to inject drugs at home rather than spending hours in hospital on a drip every few weeks.
