Jenna Bush Hager faced criticism after an on-air discussion with co-host Sheinelle Jones regarding their wedding gowns.
During an episode of TODAY with Jenna and Sheinelle on Thursday, May 14, Sheinelle discussed discovering her wedding dress while organizing for a move with her children. The 48-year-old journalist revealed she had numerous unopened boxes stored in her basement dating back to her relocation from Philadelphia to New York. Her babysitter, who was assisting with the sorting process, questioned whether she knew the whereabouts of her dress and discouraged her from discarding boxes she was reluctant to examine.
Jenna agreed with the babysitterâs advice. The 44-year-old reporter remarked to Jones, âImagine if youâd thrown out your wedding dress.â Sheinelle explained that she found her gown tucked away in an old suitcase and acknowledged that, although people had advised her to preserve it properlyâwhich she hadnâtâshe now views it âdifferentlyâ following the death of her late husband, Uche Ojeh.
She recalled how the hem of her wedding dress became filthy as she and Uche photographed their celebration throughout the streets of Philadelphia. The UAO Consulting managing partner succumbed last year to glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, at 45 years old.
Sheinelle raised questions about wedding dress preservation, wondering whether it was too late to do so. Jenna revealed that she doesnât think her own dress has been preserved, admitting she had gotten jam on it. When Sheinelle began describing the advice sheâd received about what to do with her dress, Jenna interjected, questioning what would happen once it was placed in a box.

As the conversation continued, Sheinelle asked Jenna whether one of her daughters might want to wear her wedding dress someday, noting that many people had suggested keeping it for that very reason, reports the Irish Star.
Jenna responded by noting she had posed the question to one of her daughters, before pivoting to her past (and still current) desire to host a âSeven Year Itchâ party, where brides wear their wedding gowns once more. She recounted asking her mother about the whereabouts of her wedding dress on her seventh anniversary, only to discover it no longer fit when they found it.
Jenna then shifted the conversation to Sheinelle, referencing a photo of her wearing a mask and gloves in her basement while handling her wedding dress, asking her about the experience of âexcavatingâ through meaningful keepsakes stored in the boxes.
However, not all viewers were keen on Jenna during the discussion. Some felt she was too quick to insert her own stories into the discussion, with critics suggesting her interjections came across as âtone deafâ to Sheinelleâs personal moment.

A Reddit user sparked a discussion on the Studio 1A subreddit with a thread titled âStop Interrupting.â They wrote, âJenna REALLY needs someone to tell her not to interrupt Sheinelle CONSTANTLY. Or the comparison stuff. Sheinelle finding her wedding dress AFTER HER HUSBAND died is not the equivalent of Jenna looking for hers/asking her mom.â
A second viewer commented, âI think thatâs pretty tone deaf of Jenna to make Sheinelleâs husbandâs death about herself!â
A third chimed in, âI felt the same way watching her. Just shut up and let whoever is speaking speak and get their thoughts out fully before you chime in.â
One commenter attempted to defend Jenna by suggesting she has ADHD, despite Jenna never publicly disclosing such a diagnosis. They wrote, âJenna Bush has ADHD (like clinically, not just âoh my OCD is acting up againâ). She interrupts guests frequently in the same way. Itâs one of the most common signs of ADHD, not allowing others to finish their thoughts before your own come rushing to the surface.â

Some viewers have claimed there is âtensionâ between the two hosts. This stems from an exchange in which Jenna explained her fondness for Practical Magic, citing its theme of sister empowerment and her own experience of having a sister.
When Sheinelle pointed out she has four sisters, Jenna retorted, âWell, I know, but I have one, and this is about two sisters.â
Jenna and Sheinelle have openly celebrated their bond. Prior to becoming a permanent co-host, Sheinelle filled in alongside Jenna in July 2025 (as Jenna searched for partners following Hoda Kotbâs departure) and opened up about her husbandâs passing. Moved by her words, Jenna commended Sheinelleâs resilience.
âIâve never met anybody stronger,â Jenna remarked. âI just canât sit here and sit back and not say this to you. Watching you over the last year has been remarkable.â

Sheinelle revealed that Jenna had introduced her to the song Brighter Days by Blessing Offor via text message. She discussed how the track struck a chord with her during her mourning process.
Upon being officially named co-host in December 2025, Sheinelle told the network she donned one of Ucheâs shirts before arriving at the studio for the announcement.
âI said a little prayer, and Iâm like, âLetâs go be with not my friend, but my sister,’â she reflected about Jenna.
Jenna reciprocated the sentiment, declaring, âThereâs nobody I would rather sit next to.â
