It’s a heart-wrenching moment for Sheinelle Jones as she navigates her first birthday without the love of her life, Uche Ojeh. The TODAY show host recently opened up about the overwhelming emotions she felt as she marked turning 48 on April 19th, just one year after Uche’s tragic death. Uche, 45, tragically passed away on May 23, 2025, following a courageous battle with glioblastoma, a form of aggressive brain cancer that cut his life short far too soon.

In an emotional post shared on Instagram, Sheinelle admitted she “can’t stop crying,” expressing that while there were “thankful tears,” they were mixed with deep sorrow as she reflected on the void left by Uche’s absence. Her words echoed the raw reality of grief: “Today is my 48th birthday, and to be honest- I can’t stop crying. Thankful tears, painful tears because it’s my first without Uche, and tears full of gratitude reflecting on the last 7 days.”
In her tribute, Sheinelle spoke of the incredible support she’s received over the past year. “I have never felt so much love in my life. Thank you for the prayers and support over the last year,” she shared, acknowledging the strength her fans have given her during this unimaginable time.

The emotional post was accompanied by a collection of photos and videos, including candid moments of her journey through grief and healing. She concluded her heartfelt message by paying tribute to her late husband’s love for The Beatles, adding, “Uche loved The Beatles; as I mark the beginning of 48 – I do… feel the sun. Thank you so so much.”

Sheinelle’s fans, always by her side, flooded the comments with messages of love and support. One fan wrote, “You are such a bright light for so many. Well deserved, Sheinelle. Happiest of birthdays,” while another offered a message of hope, “Uche is smiling down on you, proud as hell.”
The emotional outpouring follows the heartbreaking announcement made by Sheinelle’s TODAY co-host, Savannah Guthrie, last May. In a tearful tribute, Savannah shared the devastating news of Uche’s passing, calling him “an incredible person” and expressing deep sympathy for Sheinelle and their three young children. Savannah’s emotional message was paired with a montage celebrating the beautiful love story between Sheinelle and Uche, who shared a bond that inspired countless fans.
As Sheinelle reflects on her new reality without Uche, she continues to be an inspiration to so many as she carries on his legacy with strength, courage, and love. Her journey, filled with both painful and thankful tears, reminds us of the power of love, community, and resilience.
