George was left with watery and red eyes as he appeared to hold back tears whilst bravely spoke about her condition on the programme.

Last year, he confirmed his mum Nicky had been diagnosed with cancer as well as dealing with a brain inflammation called encephalitis.

Now, he has opened up on the symptoms affecting his mum as he bravely revealed she has begun to lose her memory as well as some of her senses.

Speaking to hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, George revealed of her first moments being ill: “She was in hospital for three or four months at first and was put into an induced coma.”

He went on to say: “She was originally given a 20% chance of living at the time.

“Thankfully, she pulled through but she is still dealing with stuff today.

“As it is an inflammation of the brain, it affects people in different ways.

“For her, she has lost all sense of taste and smell and a lot of her long-term memory has gone.

“Her sleeping pattern is sort of really hard to deal with. She gets up at 4am and doesn’t really…

“She deals really badly with loud noises. If someone sneezes next to her, her heart rate will increase and she has to try and sort of calm herself down.

“There is so much that she has to deal with.”

He added: “Anyone that meets her says she is incredible.

“Even now through her cancer treatment, you would have no real clue that anything was going on.”

George had previously dedicated his Rumba dance routine to his mum during his time on the BBC dance show.

He first realised his mum was unwell after she was found to have suffered a seizure when he was 16 years old.

Revealing the moment on last year’s Strictly, George said: “When I was 16, I was about to leave for hockey practise with my dad and he said ‘oh I’ll just check on Mum one more time because she was feeling a bit ill.

“He went upstairs and she was having a seizure.

“She was diagnosed with a brain inflammation called encephalitis.”

She went on to be diagnosed with cancer last year and is currently undergoing chemotherapy in order to fight the illness at the same time as dealing with the ramifications of her brain inflammation.
