The Ballroom Has Gone Quiet — But Tess Daly’s Next Act May Be Her Boldest Yet
When Tess Daly stepped onto the Strictly Come Dancing floor for the final time on December 20, the sparkle didn’t feel like celebration.
It felt like goodbye.
After more than 20 years — from the very first episode in 2004 to the show’s 23rd series — Tess and Claudia Winkleman closed the door on one of the most beloved partnerships British television has ever known. Viewers watched through tears as the pair fronted their final live broadcast, ending an era that began with the late Sir Bruce Forsyth and grew into a national institution.
But behind the farewell glitter, another story may already be unfolding.
From ballroom lights… to the This Morning sofa?
While the BBC has yet to reveal who will replace Tess and Claudia, betting insiders are convinced Tess Daly won’t be off screen for long.
Bookmakers at Poker Scout now list Tess as a 2/1 favourite to join ITV’s This Morning — and they believe she won’t be making the move alone.
Whispers in the industry suggest Tess could be lining up to co-host the show with her husband of 22 years, Vernon Kay.
“Tess Daly and Vernon Kay are one of Britain’s most popular TV couples,” a Poker Scout spokesperson said. “With Tess’s live-television mastery and Vernon’s versatility, they have all the ingredients to become ITV’s next iconic daytime duo.”
A duo built for daytime TV
Tess’s career stretches far beyond Strictly. From SMTV Live and Singled Out to Make Me A Supermodel and Home On Their Own, she’s spent decades proving she can handle anything live TV throws her way.
Vernon’s path is just as impressive — launching on Channel 4’s T4 in 2000 before fronting hits including All-Star Family Fortunes, Beat The Star, Splash! and 1000 Heartbeats.
Together, they share two daughters, 22 years of marriage — and, perhaps soon, a shared place on Britain’s most famous sofa.
Following in legendary footsteps
If the rumours become reality, Tess and Vernon would be walking a path once taken by television royalty.
Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan fronted This Morning for 13 years.
Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford ruled Fridays for more than a decade.
Now, with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby long gone and Ben Shephard, Cat Deeley, Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary reshaping the show, a space has quietly opened.
And fans are watching closely.
Not the end — just a pause
For viewers still raw from Tess’s emotional Strictly farewell, the idea of seeing her back on daytime television — sitting beside the man who’s stood with her through every chapter of her life — feels less like a comeback…
…and more like destiny waiting its turn.
