Noah Wyle already has big plans for the next season of The Pitt.

The actor, 54, reveals when season 3 of the medical hit will take place while speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the 2026 PaleyFest LA in Los Angeles on April 12.

The series follows staff at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center during a 15-hour shift. There was a 10-month time jump between the first two seasons, with the latter taking place specifically on the Fourth of July.

Wyle stars in the show as senior attending physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, and is also heavily involved behind the scenes as an executive producer, writer and director.

When asked about how the team picks the time for season 3, the Emmy winner jokes, “Just close our eyes, flip a calendar and throw a dart.”

He continues, on a more serious note, “We’re sort of hard-pressed to try and find a passage of time that will keep our ensemble together as much as possible because it’s such a revolving front door. You don’t want to cast it so far in the future that we’d lose more characters than we want to.”

However, Wyle explains, it’s also important to “give a little bit of difference of season because that sometimes gives you more variety of cases.”
