The View saw the longtime co-host defend Hollywood elites who attended the Met Gala despite controversy and boycotts surrounding Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ involvement
During the Tuesday, May 5 episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg was seen defending people for going to the Met Gala instead of boycotting due to Jeff Bezos’ involvement.
The gala, which was held on May 4, saw the Amazon founder and his wife, Lauren Sanchez, serve as honorary co-chairs of the event. The move caused intense outrage, including boycotting from celebrities and protesting from Amazon workers and beyond.
During The View’s Hot Topics session, Goldberg shared her opinion on the matter with her fellow panelists and their viewers. The discussion came after chaos broke out during the event following one protester charging at security. It comes after Trump was caught on camera performing a shocking act on Melania at an inappropriate moment.
Goldberg began, “People protest at the Oscars, people protest at the Grammys, people protest at the Met Gala. People protest because, yes, terrible things are happening in their country.
“And wonderful things are happening at the same time. Two things can be true at the same time. And it doesn’t mean that you don’t care that people are going hungry. Because a lot of those people do stuff for free. They go, and they give their time, they give their money. You don’t always know it’s them, but they’re doing it.”
