X Factor star Christopher Maloney warns against filler as he shares heartbreaking photo

Christopher Maloney, who came third on the 2012 series of X Factor, has shocked fans with his new look after his most recent cosmetic surgery left him unrecognisable

X Factor star Christopher Maloney has warned fans about the dangers of filler, after he was left needing under-eye surgery to correct his “loose skin”. The singer, who finished third on the ITV talent show in 2012, has previously spoken out about his “uncontrollable addiction” to cosmetic surgery, having spent more than £160,000 over the years.

The Celebrity Big Brother housemate looked unrecognisable after showing the results of his eye bag surgery, which he had in Poland. The 48-year-old could be seen with bloody stitches and swelling on his face.

Speaking on Instagram on Friday, he said: “The filler, I had lots of loose skin, so beware, do not get filler underneath your eyes because you’ll end up here. Mind you, that may be better because if you do, then you’ll end up here. But pain-free, fantastic, only took an hour, and I look about 12.”

Chris’ surgeons rushed to defend him in the comments. Europe Surgery added: “Guys this is what people look like 1 hour after eye surgery. You have to wait a week for the results.”

The singer and social media personality puts his addiction to filler and surgery down to trolling he received during his time on X Factor. Speaking in 2015 on This Morning, he admitted: “X Factor was great, but as the series was going on, I was getting really bad trolls and they were telling me that they were going to kill me, shoot me.

“I was called Mr Potato Head, that I was ugly, that I had a big nose and it just affected me so much and at the end of the final, I did have a breakdown.” Despite having support around him, the bullying became too much and he ended up having a ‘breakdown’ and was admitted to a clinic for help.

Although he had therapy, he still turned to surgery to deal with his feelings towards himself and his body dysmorphia (BDD). Heartbreakingly, Chris admitted that his condition is so severe that he ‘feels sick’ whenever he looks at himself in the mirror.

He made the admission after his 20th surgery. The star flew to Poland for blepharoplasty, a surgery where your eyelids are reconstructed and excess skin is removed.

While recovering from surgery in 2023, he revealed: “My body dysmorphia, my anxiety and depression have taken over my life. In the past 12 months it’s gone into overdrive.

“This is my 20th surgery in seven years and it’s really major. I know it’s excessive but I just can’t help it. I need to stop but I can’t.

“I started counselling but I’m really down and depressed dealing with this. I’m not doing this for vanity reasons, it’s an uncontrollable addiction.”
