Support has poured in for Dr Zoe Williams after the much-loved This Morning medic shared a deeply personal update from her hospital bed — just days after undergoing major spinal surgery that forced her to step back from the ITV show.
The This Morning regular, 45, revealed she had recently undergone open spinal surgery following months of ongoing back problems that had increasingly affected her daily life and work.

Zoe had already confirmed last week that she would be taking a step back from the programme while she focused on treatment and recovery.
Now, following the operation, the TV doctor took to Instagram to reassure fans — and the response was immediate.
Smiling Update — Just Days After Surgery
Posting from her hospital bed, Zoe appeared smiley and in good spirits as she shared a photo of herself enjoying food shortly after the operation.

In an update that stunned many followers, she revealed she had been up and walking just one hour after surgery.
As she took those first steps, the room briefly fell silent — before Zoe joked about a creaking noise:
“That was just the knees clicking. They do that.”
Later, she shared another image showing the bandage at the base of her spine, captioning the post:
“Dressed. No bending, twisting, lifting for six weeks.”
Surgeon Confirms Operation ‘Went Really Well’
Zoe’s surgeon, Mr Akmal, also offered reassurance, explaining that the procedure had gone exactly as planned.
“It was really tight in there,” he said.
“Normally the nerve canal should be circular, but Zoe’s was flattened — meaning the nerves were being significantly compressed.”
Zoe later clarified her diagnosis for followers, explaining she had been suffering from severe spinal stenosis, and that the procedure she underwent was a lumbar decompression.
She explained that the surgery involved removing overgrown ligaments and bone, caused by degenerative changes in her spine — a condition she stressed is completely different from sciatica, which often resolves without surgery.
Spacer Fitted As Recovery Begins
The medic confirmed she had successfully received a spinal spacer, with her surgeon assuring her the procedure had gone “exactly as planned.”
Zoe has since returned home and is now resting and focusing on recovery.
During her final appearance on This Morning before surgery, she told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard that she hoped to be away from work for around four weeks.
“I’ve been struggling with this back issue for some time,” she admitted.
“I’ve tried everything — physio, strengthening exercises — but I was eventually assured that surgery was the only option.”
She also revealed that doctors believe her intense exercise regime may have contributed to the condition.
Fans Rally Behind a Familiar Face
Best known for her trusted health advice on This Morning and as The Sun’s resident health columnist, Dr Zoe remains a familiar and reassuring presence to viewers — making her absence, even temporarily, deeply felt.
As messages of support continue to flood in, fans are left relieved by one thing above all else:
the surgery was a success — but the recovery journey is only just beginning.
