The TV personality, best known for his role on the E4 show Made in Chelsea, stunned his fans when he opened up on his medical diagnosis earlier this year.
The 28-year-old, who is engaged to be married and expecting his first child with his wife-to-be, revealed that he wonât survive five years without getting a transplant in heartbreaking scenes on the long-running show.
He has now got more candid than ever before during a conversation with Celebs Go Dating and MAFS expert Paul C. Brunson on his We Need To Talk podcast.
In a heartbreaking confession, he confessed he had been forced to confront the possibility of never meeting his child.
Sam, whose own father has passed away, recalled how his thoughts about him never being able to meet his grandchild had switched to him potentially never meeting his child.
The TV star said: âI always get sad when I think my dadâs never going to see his grandchild.
âTo now start having that thing dawned on you. Am I going to see my child? Thatâs terrifying.â
He became teary when he spoke about his condition and how it had affected his life with Paul.
Confirming he had only discovered the severity of his condition over the past few months, he revealed his trauma had blocked out just exactly when he was informed he needed a transplant â a feeling he has likened to blocking out the date in which his father passed.
The nephew of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills legend Lisa Vanderpump said: âYou know, thereâs something interesting thatâs just dawned on me, you know how you remember dates?
âI donât remember the date [of being told he needed a transplant]. And you know whatâs interesting? I never remembered my dadâs passing date because I blocked it out.
âAnd itâs only in the past few years I now remember my dadâs passing date, and now I donât remember this date.
âIs it because itâs trauma related and thatâs just something that dawned on me there?
âI donât remember the day, it could have been eight weeks ago, ten weeks ago, 12 weeks ago. I think you kind, when you have that trauma you block it out right? So somewhere 2 or 3 months ago in that vicinity.â]
He added: âI got this notification on the NHS app. Alice is at work. Iâm home alone and I go, oh, itâs a letter from Kingâs College.
âI get a letter after every appointment. I open it up and itâs literally a four line letter. And it goes âDear Sam, after reviewing your latest CT scan, these are in line with your condition, weâre sending you for a liver transplant assessment.â
âI mean, that was, yeah, receiving that I think your heart. Yeah. Your heart stops, your tummy drops. Yeah.
âFear. Yeah. Terrified, am I going to die?â
He further revealed that he had suffered a âbreakdownâ in the weeks that followed going public with his news as he finally came to terms with what he was facing.
Sam said on the podcast: âI mean, I had a breakdown. I think it was a couple weeks ago. I decided to talk about this for these reasons. I went, Iâm gonna do my thing and raise awareness. Itâs just what you should do.
âI was expecting to do it on Made in Chelsea, do a bit of media and that would be it. And I really did expect that.
âSo what ensued was the fact eight weeks later, Iâd processed it or compartmentalised it for now, dealt with it. And this media storm we talked about earlier hit.â
Revealing his new-found optimism, Sam confirmed that his treatments will help him to live a âlong and happy lifeâ.
He added: âAnd in all truth, a liver transplant is extremely successful. So Iâm going to be here for my son. I know that.
âAnd there are those fears. But you know, the context is Iâm healthy now. My liver might not be good for four or five years.
âBut Iâm going to have this liver transplant and everythingâs going to be fine. I will live a long, happy life.â
