Jamie Oliver has never hidden how much he adores his children, but this week the celebrity chef couldn’t hold back his emotions as his eldest son, Buddy Bear Oliver, marked an astonishing milestone — all just one day before turning 15.

The Naked Chef star, 50, proudly revealed that Buddy has released his very first  cookbook, an achievement that comes exactly 26 years after Jamie himself made his publishing debut. Despite still being in the middle of his teenage years, Buddy appears determined to carve his own path in the culinary world — and his father couldn’t be more thrilled.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Jamie shared two touching photos side by side: one of him kissing Buddy’s cheek when he was a toddler, and another more recent snap of him planting a kiss on his teenage son while they posed with a giant pot of food.

“How it started and how it’s going… very proud of this one,” Jamie captioned the post. “Buddy’s debut cookbook Let’s Cook is out in the USA and Canada on the 23rd!! Just wow.”

A Teenager Following in His Father’s Footsteps

Buddy’s debut, Let’s Cook: Fun, Easy Recipes for Kids, was first released in the UK back in July 2024. While the American release is being met with excitement, the UK launch sparked controversy, with some critics accusing the Oliver family of nepotism.Jamie, however, has always defended his son’s ambitions, explaining that Buddy isn’t trying to become a celebrity chef or  TV star. Instead, his passion is inspiring kids his own age to try cooking — a mission Jamie describes as “a really positive thing.”

Family games

Fans flooded Jamie’s latest post with praise. One commented: “Like father like son. Congratulations Buddy.” Another added: “Proud parent moment indeed.” A third gushed: “I can only imagine how much you want to burst with pride.”

Life at Home With Five Kids

Jamie and wife Jools, also 50, share five children in total. Alongside Buddy, they are parents to youngest son River Rocket, nine, and daughters Poppy Honey, 23, Daisy Boo, 22, and Petal Blossom, 16.

The chef has often spoken about both the joys and challenges of raising such a large family. In a past interview with People magazine, Jamie admitted: “Being the kids of Jamie Oliver is tricky. Some of them are super embarrassed of me. They don’t want me to pick them up from school, God forbid, say anything.”

He went on: “I don’t think being us is easy. I’m not complaining, but it’s about finding balance. The attention your dad gets — even if it’s usually for the right reasons — is embarrassing when you’re a teenage girl.”

Now that his eldest daughters are 22 and 23, Jamie says they’ve learned to handle the spotlight well. Reflecting on parenthood, he humbly added: “It hasn’t been easy, and we’ve had bumps here and there. On the whole, so far so good. Most of the credit should go to Jools, but I’d like to think I’m a good dad.”

A Family Built on Food and Love

Jamie has proudly woven his family life into his career for decades. From teaching his children to cook at home to celebrating their individual milestones, the Olivers remain a household name not only in the kitchen but also in British family culture.
