COMEDIAN Alan Carr last night won The Celebrity Traitors in a stunning TV finale watched by millions.
Alanâs incredible run on the BBC murder mystery saw him romp from being the class clown to pulling off the win no one saw coming.
He evaded detection despite murdering two Faithfuls in plain sight. And Alanâs time as a Traitor has made him the âhottest property in TVâ, with his earnings set to double.
Alan, 49, had been a 6/1 outsider to win. Following his victory, he said: âI did it! All that lying, all that treachery, it was worth it wasnât it? What a rollercoaster! How did this happen?
âMaybe I do exaggerate a showbiz story now and again but to lie to peopleâs faces was tough.
âI started this game a nervous wreck, Iâve thrown some really good friends under the bus, Iâve murdered national treasures in plain sight.
But close pals Joe and Nickâs union unravelled and left the way clear for Carrâs win.
Cat had been banished at a round table earlier in the episode.
However, as it was the final she did not have to declare if she had been a Faithful or a Traitor.
She said: âI wouldnât change a thing. I think I played the best I could. Iâm proud of myself for keeping up a lie this long.
âI had the most fun ever but I started to feel quite sad having to murder people.â
Catâs banishment left Joe, David and Nick having to work out if a Traitor was still hiding among them.
Nick turned on long-time ally Joe following the rugby playerâs decision to banish Cat having previously said he would vote for David â and the furious former England rugby prop was then banished.
The showâs rules dictate that the players must continue until the group mutually agrees to end the game. But if a single baddie remains, that Traitor would be crowned the winner.
By this point Alan, who once had a hit talk show called Chatty Man, had convinced Nick he was also a Faithful and David agreed all three should vote to call time and share the prize pot.
But of course treacherous Alan was the true winner as the sole remaining Traitor. He told the remaining players: âI am, and have always been, a Traitor. Iâm so sorry. Itâs been tearing me apart.â
It means he took a prize fund of ÂŁ87,500 to donate to childrenâs cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK.
Joe, who had been on to Alan from day one, said: âBeing in The Traitors final is way more stressful than playing for England.
âI never thought Iâd make it past day one, let alone get to the final. But I read it so wrong, it hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute like that. Gutted.â
Alanâs victory means bookers will be desperate to get him involved in a string of new projects.
A source said: âAlan has always been incredibly popular but after The Celebrity Traitors he is now the hottest property in TV and top of every bookerâs wishlist.
âHeâs already doing well financially but could see his earnings double with the influx of work. Brands are banging down the door to work with him and are prepared to shell out six-figure sums.
âThe Celebrity Traitors has taken Alanâs already brilliant career into the stratosphere.
âHis one-liners have had Britain in stitches and the whole world is obsessed with our Chatty Man.â
But the bookers may have to wait a while as he already has six shows in the pipeline.
The Sun revealed earlier this week that he had filmed a top secret gameshow pilot for the BBC.
Quick to jump on his Traitors fame, the Beeb has also scheduled a third series of his quiz Picture Slam, which is expected to be shown on Saturday nights before Strictly Come Dancing.
His home improvement series with Amanda Holden, Alan and Amandaâs Greek Job, is expected to be shown in January.
And an insider has revealed the BBC is desperate to book Alan for further outings of Interior Design Masters. Meanwhile, his long-running tenure as guest on RuPaulâs Drag Race UK is on screens now.
ITV has the third series of Alanâs semi-autobiographical comedy Changing Ends hitting screens this month and a fourth series has already been filmed.
An insider said: âAlan is completely flat out working on various things. His availability for the next few months is virtually non-existent.â
The Traitorsâ host Claudia Winkleman is also a big winner from the hit series.
Viewers have lapped up her one-liners, too, and particularly the way she hounded the Faithfuls, who did not manage to root out a Traitor until the third week of the series.
Alan delighted in the Faithfulsâ foolishness. In one confessional, he said: âTo be sitting there outwitting Stephen Fry is like outwitting Albert Einstein in chess or Cluedo.
âI have no faith in the Faithful. I am just bursting with confidence now. Can you imagine Alan in the first week? I was perspiring and my glasses were steaming up and look at me now.â
During last nightâs 70-minute final, the players took part in one last epic mission set on a steam train in the Scottish Highlands.
The locomotive sped through the countryside with the team given just 20 minutes to find a series of keys before boxes of explosives combusted on board.
Alanâs victory wrapped up a stunning first series of the celebrity version of the show. Highlights included Palomaâs murder and Celia farting during a particularly tense moment.
Other brilliant moments included the Trojan Horse mission, the Screaming Banshees task â and the beautiful Joemance between Joe Wilkinson and Joe Marler.
The Traitors returns in January with a new civilian series. Casting has already begun for a second series of The Celebrity Traitors.
