Fans have described this dramatic crime drama series as a “masterpiece” and believe it’s the lead star’s greatest role yet. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind Yellowstone and its two prequels, the series follows a member of the American Mafia, who is sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, by his boss following his release from prison.

Having spent 25 years in prison, Dwight ‘The General’ Manfredi, expects recognition from his boss, but is instead exiled to a place he knows nothing about. Not knowing anyone in the area, Dwight must find a new crew to set up a criminal empire. But in doing so, he risks the wrath of his former crime family back in New York.

Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone stars as Dwight – his first leading role in a scripted series. Tulsa King also stars Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Jay Will, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza and Garrett Hedlund.

Tulsa King premiered on Paramount+ in 2022 and currently has three seasons. The show was renewed for a fourth series in September 2025, ahead of the season three premiere. Stallone is also an executive producer and writer on the show and explained why it’s important for him to have a crucial role in the writing room.

The Rocky star told The Globe and Mail: “The writing is very personal. I don’t know if I’ve ever even said this: I don’t think I’ve said five lines in my entire career that I haven’t written.

“The only movie I can remember not rewriting anything was Cop Land. But other than that I just feel I have a certain speech pattern; the way I think, and my sense of humour, I’m better off taking what’s there and making it like a custom suit.”

Tulsa King has left fans with the same feeling, with many expressing admiration for the series online.

One wrote: “Just finished #TulsaKing a true masterpiece .. It completely blew me away and has instantly become my top show .. The writing, acting, and sheer force of #Sylvester_Stallone are unmatched.. An absolute MUST-WATCH.”

“Tulsa King is fantastic. Stallone is in his element. Another Sheridan masterpiece,” another shared on X.

Others praised Stallone’s incredible performance, writing on IMDb: “Stallone’s best role in years. Sylvester Stallone absolutely kills it in Tulsa King! For Stallone to do a tv show you knew it had to be a good script and of course it would be with Taylor Sheridan as the creator. Sheridan continues to hit home run after home run. Everything he touches turns to gold.”

Another agreed: “Stallone gives an excellent performance. Before he became a caricature from his later roles that drove Rocky and Rambo franchises into the ground, his acting and screen presence created those iconic roles. It’s good to see him back on screen in a role that seems perfect for him, and leverage some of that cheeky persona to add depth to his character and the show, rather than undermine it.”
