Dianne Buswell Shares a Heartfelt Hope for Baby Bowie as Family Distance Feels Harder Than Ever

Dianne Buswell has shared an emotional reflection on how becoming a mother has changed the way she thinks about family and distance.

During a recent vlog, the Strictly Come Dancing professional spoke to her baby son, Bowden—affectionately known as Bowie—about the relatives he has yet to spend more time with in Australia. As she pictured him growing up alongside his cousins and wider family, Dianne admitted that the thought made her emotional.

The moment was not presented as sadness alone. Instead, it revealed a hopeful wish for the years ahead: that Bowie will have opportunities to enjoy ordinary family moments with the people who live on the other side of the world.

Dianne has established her career and home life in Britain, but her roots remain closely tied to Australia. Motherhood appears to have made that connection feel even more significant, particularly as she begins imagining the childhood experiences she would like her son to have.

Messages, video calls and online updates allow her relatives to remain involved from afar. Her vlogs also give family members an opportunity to see Bowie changing and growing between visits.

Even so, Dianne acknowledged that technology cannot completely replace time spent together in person. She spoke warmly about future visits, family weekends and the possibility of watching Bowie form his own relationships with his cousins.

Her reflections are likely to feel familiar to many parents raising children far away from grandparents and extended family. The distance can make everyday milestones feel especially precious, while reunions often carry even greater emotional meaning.

Dianne and Joe Sugg first met when they were partnered on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. Their dance-floor partnership developed into a relationship after the series, and they announced in September 2025 that they were expecting their first child.

Bowden Mark Richard Sugg was born on 16 March 2026. The couple introduced him publicly two days later, describing the arrival of their son as a kind of love they had never experienced before. Dianne has since used the affectionate nickname Bowie in family updates.

Since becoming parents, Dianne and Joe have shared selected glimpses of their new routine, including quiet moments at home and visits from relatives. Their updates have focused largely on the joy, adjustment and affection surrounding their first months as a family of three.

Alongside motherhood, Dianne is preparing for another professional chapter. She is among the returning dancers announced for the 2026 series of Strictly Come Dancing, joining professionals including Amy Dowden, Aljaž Škorjanec, Jowita Przystał, Kai Widdrington, Katya Jones, Lauren Oakley, Nancy Xu, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Vito Coppola, Carlos Gu, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon.

Returning to the ballroom will inevitably bring a demanding rehearsal and performance schedule. However, Dianne’s latest reflections suggest that family connection will remain central as she works out how to balance dancing with her new responsibilities as a mother.

For now, her greatest wish for Bowie is not complicated or extravagant. She simply hopes he will grow up knowing that he belongs to a loving family stretching across two countries—and that distance will never prevent those relationships from becoming meaningful.
