Alison Hammond reacts to Prince Harry viral video after supporting him for years
Prince Harry superfan Alison Hammond has reacted to a hilarious moment about her between the royal and US talkshow host Stephen Colbert.
For years Alison Hammond has been a lone voice of support for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on ITV daytime.
Now the TV star has been left bowled over after Harry seemingly returned the support by lip-syncing to a viral moment of her on a huge US chat show.
The mum-of-one, clearly delighted at the royal nod, shared both his own and wife Meghan’s Instagram stories which shared videos of Harry’s surprise appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
Speaking about the moment on Thursday’s This Morning, Alison said she would ‘never be humble again.’ She joked: “The weirdest thing is, I can’t believe it. My phone blew up this morning. I wondered why so many people were texting me, why were so many people sending me this situation? Then I looked online and I was like ‘Oh my God!’ Does this make me royal? Am I part royalty now? How can I be humble now?”
“10 years ago, I saw Meghan and Harry, and I think I was swerved actually, by Harry. Meg gave me a line, but I got swerved by Harry and I think the tables have turned!”“I feel like there’s an MBE on the way, a Damehood, who knows?
“I can’t be humble anymore, I’ve got to big this up! I think I’ve got a link in with Meghan, she posted it as well and she [tagged] me into it as well so I’m on her radar!” “We need to get Harry and Megs on Bake Off, that’s what we want, a royal Bake Off, with Megs, Harry, William and Kate and they will all be reunited!”
In the clip Harry is seen lip-synching as he takes on the role of Alison, as the pair recreate a famous exchange between the TV star and Northern Irish baker, Mark Lutton.
In the scene, which was part of the baking show’s New Year ’s Day special in 2024, Hammond mistakenly thought Lutton was telling her to “beg for me”.
Asked what he would want her to do if he was “king for the day” Lutton replied: “Bake for me, probably.” However, Hammond misheard him and seemed shocked when she said: “You’d want me to do what? Beg?” Lutton repeated back to her: “Bake! B-A-K-E,” prompting Hammond to reply: “Oh bake!”, and erupt into laughter.
In the lip-sync clip, liberal comedian Colbert takes on the role of the baker, while Harry clearly enjoyed hamming it up as Alison – complete with raised eyebrows and dramatic expressions.
Alison is a vocal supporter of Harry’s and even had a cameo in their Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan. While hosting This Morning in 2022, she said of her cameo, “I’ve watched all three episodes, and I don’t know if you know, but in the third episode, you do actually hear my voice.”
The clip of Hammond comes from archival footage of Harry and Meghan meeting the public during their first royal walkabout together in Nottingham. From the crowd, Hammond yells: “Meghan, we love you!”
“You hear me in Nottingham going, ‘Meghan! We love you!’ Really, really loud,” the presenter exclaimed on-air.
Telling viewers she was “obsessed” with the documentary, she continued: “It was actually in the documentary – so I was watching the documentary, and I was like, ‘That’s my voice!’ I was like, this is so good!”
Hours after the release of the festive special of her Netflix show, the Duchess of Sussex – whose estranged father it has emerged is seriously ill in hospital in the Philippines – shared her husband’s recent comedy moment on Instagram.
But not everyone was quite so enamoured with what was the Prince’s second appearance on the Late Show – his first appearance following the release of his bombshell memoir, Spare.
When he savagely mocked Donald Trump by claiming America had ‘elected a king’, it sparked pantomime boos from the audience.
Delivering other awkward jokes, Harry also slammed CBS for settling a ‘baseless’ lawsuit with the President and claimed the US are ‘obsessed with royalty’.
He also made a joke about one of his own relatives – King George III, Harry’s great great great great great grandfather whose reign saw the loss of the American colonies in 1783, and said Colbert should ‘let it go’ when the host called the late monarch ‘a jerk’.
The 41-year-old joined the liberal comedian, who has been an outspoken critic of Harry’s family, for a Christmas sketch about being a prince in a Hallmark movie, broadcast in the US last night. There was no traditional interview and viewers admitted cringing when some of Harry’s deadpan jokes failed to land.
Elsewhere, Harry joined Colbert – who has been critical of Harry’s family in the past – for a festive sketch about being a prince in a Hallmark movie, and joked he’d ‘do anything’ as he begged to be in the film, explaining that he can ride a horse, fly a helicopter and had showbiz connections including a wife who was once a famous TV star.
As artificial snow then began to fall as the Duke made a gag about being a ‘handsome prince’ and Colbert had to ‘just believe’, the host told him he had ‘got the role’ of ‘official Late Show prince of Christmas’.
