The Great British Bake Off is once again at the centre of TV industry speculation after a major media deal raised questions about where the beloved baking series could appear in the future.
For now, nothing is changing for viewers. Channel 4’s current agreement with Love Productions remains in place, and the show is still expected to continue on the broadcaster as planned.
However, fresh discussion has begun after ITV agreed to sell its media and entertainment business to Comcast, the owner of Sky. As part of the wider changes, ITV Studios is set to acquire Love Productions, the company behind The Great British Bake Off.
That shift has led some industry observers to wonder whether Bake Off could eventually move again once its existing Channel 4 deal comes to an end.
The show has already made one major channel move in the past. It first aired on the BBC from 2010 before switching to Channel 4 in 2017, a change that became one of the biggest British TV stories of that period.
According to the details being discussed, some insiders believe ITV would see Bake Off as a valuable addition if the opportunity ever became available. The programme remains one of Channel 4’s strongest entertainment titles, which explains why any suggestion of a future move quickly attracts attention.
ITV has not confirmed any plans to pursue the series. Senior executives have instead focused on the wider Comcast agreement, describing it as an important moment for the broadcaster and stressing that ITV’s biggest shows will remain central to its future.
Channel 4 has also reassured viewers that its deal for Bake Off is with Love Productions and is not affected by the wider transaction. The broadcaster has made clear that its current multi-year agreement still stands.
So, while the speculation may continue behind the scenes, Bake Off fans do not need to worry for now. The tent is staying on Channel 4 at present — but in British television, long-term rights battles are always worth keeping an eye on.
