Glam chef Nigella, 66 – who in part is known for her saucy innuendos – is said to be “bubbling with excitement” over her plum telly role.

Yet while Prue previously threw her weight behind the new Bake Off recruit, it seems she won’t be tuning in.

She told The Telegraph: “I hardly ever watch telly and, if I do, it’ll be a travel programme because my husband likes things involving people going to extraordinary places”.

Yet she did offer Nigella some advice and added to the publication: “Just enjoy it because you’ll never have a nicer job”.

Nigella previously told us she was “giddily grateful” for her new telly role.

She will soon enter the cook show’s famous tent alongside fellow judge Paul Hollywood, plus hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding.

Nigella said after bagging her new job: “I’m uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now.

“Of course it’s daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue and Mary Berry before her, great dames both, but I’m also bubbling with excitement.

“The Great British Bake Off is more than a television programme, it’s a National Treasure – and it’s a huge honour to be entrusted with it.

“I’m just thrilled to be joining the team and all the new bakers to come, I wish the marvellous Prue all the best, and am giddily grateful for the opportunity!”

The Sun was first to reveal that Nigella was taking over from Prue, with a source describing the cook as a “phenomenal signing”.

Departing Prue has also previously thrown her weight behind the new recruit.

She said: “She’s sassy, fun and she knows her onions — and her croissants, cake and crumble.”

The job marks a return to TV screens for Nigella, who has not screened a new series since Cook, Eat Repeat in 2020.
