The intersection of public interest and strict institutional protocol is facing heightened analysis as internal facility updates leak to global monitoring networks. Following the transition of a high-profile individual to a specialized maximum-security sector, operational dynamics have shifted significantly to counter potential containment vulnerabilities. Legal observers emphasize that high-level administrative protection frameworks remain operational to ensure the integrity of the judicial penalty process.

BABY Preston Davey’s killer Jamie Varley is living in terror after being moved to the ‘Monster Mansion’ jail where paedo Ian Watkins was murdered.
Vile Varley, 37 – handed a whole-life order for the tragic tot’s abuse and murder – has refused to eat after being switched to Wakefield Prison, West Yorks and is being watched around the clock by guards.
A sourece said: “Varley is absolutely terrified.
“He is also confined to his cell and has barely eaten since he got to Wakefield on Monday.
“It is the move he dreaded and pretty much the worst outcome for him.
“Varley will have an awful time at the prison, which is what he deserves.
“Officers are keeping close tabs on him but that won’t last forever as they don’t have enough staff.
“They have even offered him separate exercise – although he hasn’t been taking it.
“Instead he has been in his cell sobbing and saying he doesn’t want his life to carry on.
“Varley has already got a massive target on his back because of his case and as he is vulnerable.
“And he is well aware what happened to Ian Watkins and also Kyle Bevan at Wakefield so fears some sort of brutal attack.”
Three cons were last week given life orders for killing child killer Bevan, 33, in a savage attack in his cell last November.
And two other Wakefield inmates face trial over the murder of ex-Lostprophets singer Watkins, 48, who was stabbed to death in October 2025.
The Category A jail is dubbed ‘Monster Mansion’ due to the fiends it holds including Sarah Payne’s killer Roy Whiting and sex offenders Reynhard Sinaga and Sidney Cooke.
We told last week how Varley had been listed as an “escape risk” after guards uncovered a plot to flee custody.
It meant he had to wear a yellow and green jumpsuit while his movement behind bars was restricted at Category B Preston Prison, Lancs, before his move.
Ex-teacher Varley has remained an “enhanced” inmate – the highest of three privilege levels, with £33 per week to spend on canteen treats, a 24-hour per day Freeview TV package.
We told last week how he feared being switched to a high-security jail and bleated: “I will end up like Ian Watkins”.
Varley and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley – who got 25 years – were jailed after a harrowing case at Preston Crown Court that heard how they abused, sexually assaulted and tortured heir adopted baby.
Judge Mr Justice Turner barnded them “sadistic” and told Varley: “You will never be eligible for parole.”
From Safety to Systematic Abuse
Preston was initially taken into protective custody by social services just five days after his birth, away from his biological mother, Sarah Davey, a convicted killer. After thriving under temporary foster care, Preston was formally placed with Craig Varley and sales manager Daniel McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, in April 2025. Varley had reportedly taken a year off work to facilitate the adoption process.
However, the prosecution detailed that during the four months the infant lived with the couple, he was systematically assaulted and abused.
The ordeal culminated in Preston’s death in July 2025 at the age of 13 months. Varley rushed the unresponsive infant to the hospital, claiming that the child had accidentally drowned. The prosecution successfully disproved this account, demonstrating that the baby had actually been smothered to death.
Medical Evidence and Convictions
A comprehensive post-mortem examination exposed the severe extent of the trauma inflicted upon the infant. Pathologists identified 40 distinct external and internal injuries across Preston’s body. Crucially, the medical findings included injuries that experts concluded were consistent with “forcible penetration” and acute sexual abuse.
Following a trial detailing the systematic failures of care, the jury returned guilty verdicts for both defendants:
-
Craig Varley was convicted of murder, child cruelty, grievous bodily harm (GBH), the sexual assault of a child, and taking indecent photos or images of a child.
-
Daniel McGowan-Fazakerley was convicted of allowing the death of a child, child cruelty, and the sexual assault of a child.
Both men remain in custody ahead of their formal sentencing hearing, where they face mandatory life terms.
