Holly Willoughby has acknowledged a driving mistake following an incident in London involving her Mini Cooper, which resulted in another road user falling from his scooter. The presenter entered a guilty plea to a charge of driving without due care and attention through a written submission to Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court.
The incident occurred on August 28 near her London home. According to the hearing, Holly made a right turn without signalling, and the scooter rider, who was overtaking at the time, lost balance and fell. The court confirmed the rider sustained injuries that were treated after the collision.
Outcome of the hearing
As part of the ruling, Holly received a financial penalty totalling £2,444, including court fees, and six points were added to her driving licence. She now has 14 days to complete the payment.
Magistrates were shown footage of the moment her car turned into a side street without indicating. The rider told the court he had been slowing down for a traffic light when the turn occurred.
Holly’s response through her legal team
Representing Holly, defence lawyer Aisling Byrnes described the event as a brief lapse in judgement. Byrnes noted that Holly was deeply upset to learn someone was hurt and reacted immediately:
-
She left her vehicle to check on the rider
-
She stayed at the scene to assist
-
She offered help while waiting for emergency services
-
She admitted fault right away and later submitted her plea promptly
The court also noted that Holly appeared on the legal documents under her married name, Baldwin.
Magistrate David Charnley acknowledged her early guilty plea and cooperation, saying the incident reflected a momentary error rather than reckless behaviour.
A challenging period for the presenter
This case follows a difficult few years for Holly’s public and personal life. She stepped back from This Morning in 2023 after a period of professional and personal strain, including her well-documented split from co-host Phillip Schofield.
Last year, she also faced an extremely distressing situation involving a man who was later convicted for planning to harm her. That case had a significant emotional impact, but Holly has gradually returned to work, including a Netflix appearance with Bear Grylls earlier this year.
While that project has since ended, industry insiders believe Holly could be preparing for a major TV comeback, with rumours linking her to roles on Strictly Come Dancing and other high-profile formats.
