The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has gripped the nation and now the world, and with the search about to enter its eighth week, a chilling new theory has emerged

As the hunt for Nancy Guthrie reaches its 48th day, the most surprising thing to come out of the investigation is how little the world knows about how, why and what happened to the 84-year-old. Despite the police having released surveillance video and photos from Nancy’s Arizona home and having recovered DNA, no suspect has yet been identified and no motive has been put forward. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently told NBC Nightly News that investigators believe they know why Nancy was targeted.
He claimed, âWe believe we know why he did this, and we believe that it was targeted, but we, we canât, weâre not 100% sure of that.” The sheriff continued: âSo itâd be silly to tell people, âYeah, donât worry about it. Youâre, youâre not his target.â Donât think for a minute that because it happened to the Guthrie family, youâre safe. No, keep your wits about you,â the controversial sheriff added. Police recently investigated a mystery 911 call about a “screaming woman hanging out of a car.”
In light of all the uncertainty, former FBI special agent Harry Trombitas told Yahoo that while the motive could be money-related, itâs âappearing less and lessâ likely. âThereâs too much involved,â Harry suggested, noting, âThere are too many ways people can get caught.â Not just that, he explained that kidnappings for ransom are actually pretty uncommon, and have âreally decreased over the years.â He explained, â[The motive] could be for revenge of some type, anger, or it could be for a third purpose that weâre just not even aware of.â It comes after a mystery witness who “saw Nancy FIVE days ago” offered chilling new proof.
At this time, it is believed the investigation is focusing on processing âmixedâ DNA recovered from Nancy’s home and on following up on leads from neighbors, including a possible empty house in the neighborhood and anyone who might have been working there the days before the disappearance.
There have also been reports that police are looking at a damaged utility box that might be connected to a reported internet outage around the time Nancy vanished.
âThe FBI and law enforcement will continue to work this case as though sheâs still alive,â Harry pointed out, before continuing, âI know that with her age, 84 years old, and some of her health conditions that she has, the prospects of her being found alive are not as great as they were originally.â
Savannah is said to be concerned her job on NBC’s Today show contributed to her mother’s abduction (Image: savannahguthrie/Instagram)
All of this comes after a source told Radar Online that Savannah, who has been a major host on NBC’s Today show since July 2012, is reevaluating her next steps amid fears that her job may have played a role in her motherâs disappearance.
âSavannah is devastated â and fearing the worst. Sheâs trying to be strong, but this has shattered her,â the insider told the publication. âSheâs questioning everything â her career, her public life, and whether staying in the spotlight is worth the risk to her familyâs safety.â
The source concluded, âHer only focus is protecting her family. Returning to Today is absolutely the last thing on her mind.â As investigators scramble to find answers and only meet dead ends, an eye-watering $1 millon reward has been offered by Nancy’s family.
It comes as a mystery person was revealed to have fled the neighborhood within days of Nancy’s disappearance.
