Celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas has finally spoken out after quietly marrying TV icon Davina McCall, shedding light on their deeply personal, low-key wedding just months after their engagement was revealed.

The couple tied the knot earlier this month in an intimate ceremony attended only by close family and a handful of trusted friends — a deliberate decision shaped by Davina’s recent health struggles and their desire to protect something truly personal.

Davina, 58, has previously described Michael, 52, as her “life saver,” and on Wednesday night she shared a touching tribute to her new husband on Instagram, posting the romantic poem Dust by Harry Baker. The words focused not on glamour or excess, but on love found in life’s quiet, everyday moments.

“It’s not the flowers, it’s the wedding in the mud with you.
It’s not the champagne, it’s that cuppa in that favourite mug you use,” the poem reads, before celebrating comfort food, frozen pizza, and shared laughter over perfection.

The post appeared just as Michael went live on Instagram for a Q&A session about hair care — but the conversation quickly turned personal as fans flooded the comments with congratulations.

Clearly overwhelmed, Michael finally addressed the messages, saying:
“There’s lots of congratulations here. Wow. Amazing. Thank you, thank you.”

He went on to explain why the couple chose to keep their wedding so private.
“We tried really hard to keep it private,” he admitted. “That’s why there are no pictures. Thank you everybody for the congratulations — it’s very nice.”

Insiders say Davina’s health journey over the past year played a major role in the timing and tone of the wedding. The Sun revealed earlier this week that the couple secretly said “I do” on Friday in what one friend described as an “absolutely beautiful” ceremony.

“It was very low key,” the source said. “Their wedding was perfect — exactly what they wanted. They chose a small venue close to their home and invited around ten people who mean the world to them. It was incredibly intimate.”

Davina has been married twice before. Her first marriage, to shop worker Andrew Leggett, followed a whirlwind romance and lasted less than a year. Her second marriage, to Matthew Robertson, lasted 17 years and produced three children — Holly, Tilly and Chester. Michael separated from his former wife Tracey in 2019.

A Year Defined by Strength and Survival

The quiet wedding comes after an emotionally intense year for Davina. Last month, the Masked Singer star revealed she had been battling breast cancer, almost a year after undergoing emergency surgery to remove a rare brain tumour.

Speaking at a Dine with Davina charity event, she stunned the audience by revealing that a 4mm lump had been discovered in her breast. Thankfully, doctors confirmed it had been caught early and fully removed.

“They got all of it,” Davina told the crowd. “The margins were clear. I didn’t need lymph nodes taken, and I’m very lucky.”

She explained that while chemotherapy is not required, she will undergo five days of radiotherapy as an “insurance policy.”

Davina revealed the moment she discovered the lump while working on The Masked Singer, after seeing a reminder to check her breasts. Initially reassured by doctors, she later underwent a biopsy — a decision she now credits with saving her life.

She also spoke candidly about the emotional toll of the diagnosis, admitting she became unexpectedly angry — a feeling she had never allowed herself before.

Michael, she said, gently but firmly encouraged her to open up.
“He looked at me and said, ‘Stop. I can see what you’re doing. You’re not fine.’”

Davina admitted she had been bottling everything up.
“I was stamping my feet, swearing, letting it all out — and it felt so good.”

For the couple, their wedding wasn’t about spectacle or headlines — it was about survival, gratitude, and choosing each other in the midst of uncertainty.

A small ceremony. A private promise. And a new chapter shaped by resilience, love, and the decision to live fully — now.
