Rachel Reeves has visited Kyiv, where she said the UK remains committed to supporting Ukraine through both defence assistance and long-term recovery efforts.
During her visit, the Chancellor met families at a UK-supported centre that helps with the rehabilitation of children with disabilities. She also held discussions with Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, Mykhailo Fedorov, alongside representatives from British and Ukrainian defence companies.
Reeves paid tribute at the memorial wall at St Michael’s, honouring those who have lost their lives since Russia’s full-scale invasion. She also visited the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a major religious and cultural site that was damaged during a recent Russian attack.
Speaking during the trip, Reeves said the UK’s support for Ukraine remains firm. She said British investment is helping Ukraine defend itself, rebuild critical infrastructure and support vulnerable people.
The visit followed recent talks at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk, where the UK announced more than £290 million in support for Ukraine’s resilience and energy security. This comes alongside further fiscal support and wider UK commitments covering military, non-military and export finance assistance.
According to the UK Government, British support has helped households and businesses keep access to power and heating during winter, while also helping protect parts of Ukraine’s national energy infrastructure.
Although the situation remains difficult, Reeves’ visit placed emphasis on recovery, partnership and the everyday needs of Ukrainian families. For many, the message was clear: support is not only about the battlefield, but also about helping communities rebuild with safety, dignity and hope.
