Growing up in Kansas City, Ana Demmer never thought she’d stay as an adult. She was always a Chiefs fan, sure, but soccer was her favorite sport. And she certainly never believed she’d be romantically involved with a player on the city’s NFL team.
But as fate would have it, Demmer, now 27, lives just down the road from her childhood home. She watches just about every Chiefs game, often from the lower bowl at Arrowhead Stadium. Oh, and she’s been dating Chiefs offensive lineman Creed Humphrey, 26, for over a year — living what she describes as the “insane” life of an NFL WAG.
And it was fate, Demmer tells PEOPLE, that brought her and her boyfriend together.
“We have a really long invisible string,” she says of their relationship.
Humphrey’s best friend’s cousin and Demmer happened to play on the same co-ed volleyball team in college, and when Humphrey was drafted by Kansas City, he tried to set them up. As it turns out, Demmer and Humphrey had already connected online — and when the cousin in question showed Humphrey a picture of Demmer, he responded, “I’m literally texting that girl right now.”

Another coincidence: While they were still messaging and getting to know each other, Humphrey told Demmer he had plans to head out to a bar in town with some friends and asked if she wanted to meet him there. Out of every bar in Kansas City, it was the one Demmer was working at while finishing her master’s degree.
Demmer also frequented the Oklahoma area as a student-athlete in college — the very places Humphrey, who was born in Shawnee, Okla., grew up going to. The list of connections goes on.
“We were constantly crossing each other’s paths our entire lives and just happened to not run into each other until he came to Kansas City,” says Demmer. “But God’s timing is always right.”
Their early months of dating were a whirlwind as Demmer, a stranger to the spotlight, and Humphrey, jaded by the glare of fame, got to know each other — trying to keep it as private as possible.
“We didn’t tell a soul,” says Demmer, adding that it was for her sake as well, since she grew up in the city.

There were certainly growing pains, she admits: On one of their first dates out at a restaurant, a fan asked to snap a picture of Humphrey while they were eating, and Demmer eagerly volunteered to take it for them, causing a line of fans to start to form who also wanted to pose with their NFL hero.
“He was like, ‘I’m so thankful that you are willing to handle it. However, Ana, I need to finish my steak,’ ” she remembers with a laugh. “There were just a lot of learning curves with exposure in the beginning.”

Though they had been dating for a few months by the time Humphrey and the Chiefs went to the Super Bowl in 2024, Demmer says she was adamant that she would stay home — not wanting to be introduced to his parents for the first time at such a massive venue.
“Dating in his realm — it’s incredibly difficult to find authentic people,” she says. “I was like, ‘I’m not meeting your family at a Super Bowl.’ I didn’t want that look. I wanted to meet them at his house. I wanted to meet them with my family. I wanted to be very intentional about how we went about it.”
So instead, they saved their hard-launch for a more tasteful moment. Well, kind of.
It was the 2024 Super Bowl ring ceremony, where Humphrey would be receiving that hard-fought piece of hardware in recognition of the Chiefs’ thrilling defeat of the San Francisco 49ers.
“For some reason, I thought I could go to the ring ceremony and nobody would notice,” says Demmer, admitting now that she was a bit naive about her boyfriend’s level of fame. Lo and behold, the team’s official social media accounts posted a photo of her supporting her boyfriend, and the secret was out.
“I’m not kidding, I had at least 10,000 notifications on every app combined,” Demmer recalls. “I remember thinking my phone was about to catch on fire.”
But the reaction was overwhelmingly positive: “Extreme love and support,” Demmer says. “It was just a lot of people happy for us.”

And just like that, Demmer was officially an NFL WAG — and she was gearing up for her first season in the Chiefs Kingdom.
“It was insane and it was so fun,” she said of the season. “It was constantly full of adventure. You never know what’s gonna happen the next day.”
There were the games, of course, plus plenty of team events and other festivities. On one occasion, tight end Travis Kelce texted her boyfriend on a Monday morning that he and his pop superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift were hosting a party later that night — “and I have to be in office the next day,” laughs Demmer, referencing her 9-to-5 day job. “Obviously we went and made it work, but it’s been such a whirlwind of adventure while trying to balance the priorities in my life.”
Luckily, amid the craziness, Demmer says she quickly developed a “close-knit friend group” with the team’s other offensive linemen’s WAGs who all were going through the same experiences together.
“We have such a welcoming community — I don’t know if it’s just the Midwest vibes,” she says. “I think there are a lot of stereotypes, like mean girl behavior, but at the Chiefs, we don’t have that at all.”
Demmer is also all-in on her boyfriend’s family’s “huge” tailgates on game day. For home games, the day starts by packing a massive van with as many family members as possible — “balancing barbecue on our laps and making sure the cheesy corn isn’t spilling on anyone,” she says, as they drive to the iconic Arrowhead Stadium.

They park at the stadium’s family lot, where WAGs and family members of any teammate are invited to stop by, have a bite to eat and participate in the Humphrey tradition of taking a shot of Fireball before entering Arrowhead. And once she’s inside the stadium — often seated in the lower bowl where the energy is the highest — she’s locked into the game.
For away games, Sundays look a little different: Demmer usually parks herself on her couch at home and catches up on her life by doing some laundry or getting ready for the work week (on top of the madness of the WAG life, she also works as a social media strategist at Garmin).

“People are like, ‘Do you want to come to the bar?’ ” she says. “I am like, ‘I am staying in this house. I am enjoying our home today.’ ”
As she’s settled into the WAG life — her second season with the team is now in full swing — Demmer says she’s still figuring out how she wants to use her platform.
On Instagram, where she has over 21,000 followers, she says her first priority is to “glorify God,” but her second is to “bring attention to Kansas City businesses.”

“If there’s anything I want to do, it’s to help the people of Kansas City,” continues Demmer, adding that she and her boyfriend were so excited that Humphrey signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs last year, meaning they’ll get to stay for a while.
“I am so passionate about my city and the people here and the businesses here,” she says. “We’re always just gonna pray to be here, and we love this organization.”
