Good Morning Britain was met with a wave of complaints after a new report on Rachel Reeves sparked backlash. The Chancellor has come under fire after referring herself to the independent ethics adviser, admitting she “had not been made aware of the licensing requirement” when she listed her Dulwich home for rent. As she did not obtain a licence from Southwark Council, calls have been made for her to be sacked by Keir Starmer.
In response, the Prime Minister said he was pleased that “the matter can be drawn to a close,” following consultation with his independent ethics adviser, who has decided not to open an investigation. Presenting Thursday’s (October 30) instalment of the ITV programme, Ed Balls described the situation as “embarrassing” for the Chancellor, with her rule break emerging just weeks before the Autumn Budget.

GMB correspondent Lorna Shaddick explained: “After Labour won the election last summer, Rachel Reeves moved from her family home in Southwark to here in Westminster and she put that family home up for rent for £3,200 a month.
“Southwark council have ruled that landlords need to get a license to do that, which costs nine hundred pounds. We understand that Rachel Reeves used a letting agent and they did not inform her that the license was necessary.
“She says she accepts she should have got that license. She has now applied for one and admitted all this in a letter to the prime minister.
“The Conservatives have reminded the prime minister of his own words which were ‘rule makers cannot be rule breakers’ and they’re calling on him to quote ‘grow a backbone’ and sack the chancellor.”
Fans were outraged by the update as they flocked to social media to complain.
“She knew. She has to resign,” demanded one viewer as a second shared: ” Until it’s fully investigated, the PM cannot possibly be sure that @RachelReevesMP did not make a mistake. Do the right thing @Keir_Starmer & investigate this.”
A third fumed: “Starmer said he’s not going to investigate this. Turn this on it head what would he say if it was a Tory minister especially the chancellor the whole lot are hypocrites they would be calling for her to resign and before the election.”
Another branded the Labour government as “shameful”, claiming it is one rule for them and another for everyone else.
A fifth echoed: “Starmer and Reeves are laughing at us, one rule for them and another for us.”
