Emma Raducanu will not compete at Wimbledon this year after confirming that a lower-leg issue has developed into a stress fracture.
The British No. 1 had been doing everything possible to prepare for her opening match against Antonia Ruzic on Court 1. Earlier in the week, she had taken several days away from training while managing discomfort in her leg. She later returned to practice and appeared to be giving herself every chance to play.
However, after further medical checks on Sunday evening, Raducanu was advised not to continue pushing through the injury. She announced her withdrawal only hours before she was due to begin her campaign.
In a message shared with fans, Raducanu said playing at Wimbledon in front of a home crowd means everything to her, making the decision especially difficult. She also thanked supporters for their encouragement, saying their backing is invaluable at this time.
The setback comes after a challenging period for the 23-year-old, who has had to manage fitness and illness issues across the season. Even so, her recent run to the final at Queen’s Club showed encouraging signs and reminded fans of the quality she can bring when healthy.
For now, the priority is recovery. While this is a disappointing moment, Raducanu’s decision reflects a careful and sensible approach to protecting her long-term future.
