Kate Garraway appeared in exceptionally high spirits on Wednesday as she enjoyed a festive family outing with her teenage children, Darcey and Billy, at London’s Winter Wonderland — only days after opening up about the possibility of finding love again.

The 58-year-old broadcaster was all smiles throughout the visit, where she played a variety of fairground games alongside her children and proudly won a large elephant teddy as a prize.
Bundled up for the chilly December weather, Kate wore a cream faux-fur coat and matching knitted beanie. Darcey, 19, completed her winter look in a beige puffer coat paired with a multi-coloured striped scarf, while Billy wore a blue puffer jacket layered over a grey hoodie as he joined in laser games.

The trio spent hours exploring the theme park, hopping on rides and competing in friendly challenges. While Kate opted to keep her feet planted firmly on the ground for some of the thrill rides, she cheered enthusiastically for her children as they braved roller coasters.

In one joyful moment, Kate could be seen punching the air in celebration after winning a major game prize. In another, she joined a friend on a merry-go-round, smiling broadly and striking playful poses for the camera.

The family outing followed Kate’s recent public comments about dating again after the death of her husband, Derek Draper. During a discussion with Jamie Laing on his Great Company podcast, she admitted she is tentatively open to romance — though unsure whether “anyone would want” her.
“I wouldn’t like to think I’d never have romantic love again,” she said, acknowledging she’s not ready yet but open to the possibility.
She even quipped to Jamie: “Find out if any of your mates’ dads are single.”

Kate confessed she has never used a dating app and finds the concept of traditional dating awkward.
“I just end up interviewing people,” she joked.
Derek, father to Darcey and Billy, passed away at age 56 last year following long-term complications from Covid.
In an earlier interview with The Sun, Kate acknowledged the emotional challenge of moving on:
“What Derek and I loved was our home life. We had 21 years of that.”

While she remains deeply rooted in their past, she also recognises life won’t bring new love to her living room.
Financial pressures have added another layer to her journey. Kate was forced to sell her marital home due to debts of around £800,000 accumulated during Derek’s long-term care.

The Georgian terrace property in Islington, purchased for £550,000 in 2004, recently sold for £1.7 million. After taxes and mortgages, she is set to make a substantial profit, though much of it is expected to service debts.

Multiple businesses connected to Derek — and jointly controlled by the couple — had entered liquidation over the years, accumulating more than £1.5 million in debt.
Astra Aspera Ltd alone owed hundreds of thousands, including a large HMRC claim. Other firms, Fulfill Media Ltd and Countrymouse Media Ltd, were liquidated with similarly high totals.
Though creditors are unlikely to receive payouts, liquidators confirmed Kate has repaid part of the overdrawn directors’ loan.

Despite these obstacles — emotional and financial — Kate’s cheerful outing with her children appeared to symbolise resilience, hope, and the beginning of a new chapter.
And as she beamed with her teenage children under the festive lights of Winter Wonderland, it was clear she is committed to finding happiness — on her own terms — while navigating grief, debt, motherhood, and the question of love after loss.
