Mickey Rourke is quietly plotting a dramatic return to the big screen — just nine months after his controversial exit from Celebrity Big Brother left his reputation in tatters in the UK.

The veteran Hollywood actor, 73, was removed from the ITV reality show earlier this year following what producers described as “unacceptable behaviour,” sparking headlines and fierce debate among viewers.

But while the scandal dominated British tabloids, insiders now claim it has barely registered in Hollywood — where Rourke’s name is once again being floated for major film roles.
According to sources close to several upcoming projects, the Oscar-nominated star is being seriously considered for two high-profile music biopics, playing the older versions of legendary performers.
One project centres on the life of Black Sabbath icon Ozzy Osbourne, while another would see Rourke portray US country music legend Johnny Cash.
A Hollywood insider revealed that Rourke’s name has repeatedly surfaced in casting discussions when producers debate who could convincingly portray the rock and country icons later in life.
“Mickey is golden in the States,” the source said. “Most people here don’t even know about the Celebrity Big Brother situation. Hollywood loves an underdog — and they think Mickey still has an Oscar-worthy performance left in him.”
The insider added:
“He was a top-tier actor back in the day. If he hadn’t taken some wrong turns, he could have been spoken about in the same breath as James Dean or Marlon Brando.”
Producers are reportedly keen to capture a raw, emotionally charged performance — similar to Rourke’s acclaimed turn in The Wrestler — particularly for the Ozzy Osbourne biopic, which is expected to focus on the rocker’s later years and his emotional return to the stage.
“There are scripts in the pipeline for both Ozzy and Johnny Cash,” the source continued. “Mickey’s name keeps coming up. They want something gritty, vulnerable and powerful — and they’re confident he could deliver.”
It is understood that streaming giants Amazon MGM and Apple have both expressed interest in backing the projects, with heavyweight directors also being linked — including legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese.
Ozzy’s son, Jack Osbourne, first confirmed earlier this year that a biopic about his father is moving forward at pace.
Speaking in July, Jack revealed:
“We do have the film on the way. There’s a lot of good momentum. We’ve got a director attached, the script is done, and Sony Studios is producing it.”
He added that the team hopes filming could begin as early as spring, pending final approval.
“If the evil overlords of Hollywood give us the green light, we could be filming in the spring,” Jack joked. “Maybe it’ll be out by summer 2027 — fingers crossed.”
For Rourke, the timing could mark a career-defining redemption arc — a chance to reclaim his status as one of Hollywood’s most compelling performers after years of turbulence, controversy and missed opportunities.
Whether he ultimately lands either role remains to be seen — but insiders say his name is firmly back on the table, and that alone has fans buzzing about a potential Noughties-style comeback.
As one industry source put it:
“They’re betting that Mickey still has one unforgettable performance left — and Hollywood loves nothing more than a comeback story.”
